Get to know Liam:


Liam Cavanagh, newly appointed Director of Operations & Player Development for Finngoalie in Nova Scotia after working in the NCAA the past 5 years as Director of Hockey Operations at Robert Morris University and University of Massachussetts, Boston. 



Cavanagh earned his BBA from Acadia University in 2017 with a focus in Marketing and Finance, followed by his Master’s Degree in Organization Leadership with a focus in non-profit leadership and data analytics at Robert Morris University in 2019.


Cavanagh’s operational hockey career started at UMass Boston, after his playing career had been cut short. After struggling with mental health for years, publicly opening up and sharing his story, he has made endless strides to help other understand there is light at the end of the tunnel. 


The native of Nova Scotia, Cavanagh founded Never Give Up Radio, a non-profit organization that was built to help student-athletes and intercollegiate students understand the importance of a balanced lifestyle while maintaining and understanding the significance that mental health plays in everyday life. NGU (Never Give Up) has built a platform featuring several collegiate and professional athletes to help advocate mental health and help others understand that “it is ok to not be ok”. Liam has hosted and been guests at Mental Health Initiative all across North America and has been a small piece to the puzzle when helping to show others that there is hope through struggle. You are never alone.
